DA oversight visit uncovers deteriorating conditions at Namahadi Clinic
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for urgent intervention from the Free State Department of Health following a recent oversight visit that revealed alarming conditions at the Namahadi Clinic.
According to Free State DA spokesperson Heidre Malgas, the clinic has fallen into a state of neglect, jeopardizing the health, safety, and dignity of both patients and staff.
“The grounds are overgrown with weeds, the grass is uncut, and the perimeter fence is broken, leading to a spike in security concerns, including reports of break-ins,” said Malgas.
Equally troubling are ongoing water leaks within the facility, despite the municipality’s frequent water outages, which often leave the area without running water for days.
The DA also noted excessive patient waiting times, with some residents reportedly arriving at the clinic as early as 07h30 and still waiting to be seen after noon.
Adding to the concerns, several clinic restrooms are reportedly out of order, posing serious hygiene and health risks.
Malgas confirmed that the DA will raise these issues in the Free State Legislature and continue pressing the Health Department for urgent and sustained action.
“The DA remains committed to fighting for safe, dignified, and quality healthcare services for every resident in the Free State,” she said.
