ZINGISWA LOSI ON TRUMP

Mooinooi business owner and Union Rep in court over assault

Tensions have escalated at Mothamo Waste Management in Mooinooi, North West, following a violent altercation between the company’s owner, Molefe Maleka, and union representative Disego Leso.

Leso, a member of the NEWUYA union, says she was addressing employee grievances on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, when she confronted Maleka over allegations of verbal abuse and swearing directed at workers.

According to Leso, Maleka allegedly insulted her during the exchange, and physically assaulted her. A video shows Maleka, dressed in red track pants, allegedly striking Leso before male employees stepped in.

Leso reported the incident at the Brits Police Station (case number 452/5/2025) after receiving medical attention. Maleka has since opened a counter-assault case at Mooinooi Police Station.

Police have confirmed that both parties are expected to appear in Brits Magistrate’s Court. SAPS North West spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone is handling the matter.
